Errata for First Edition, First Printing of Thorneycroft to SA80: British Bullpup Firearms, 1901–2020 by Jonathan Ferguson

Factual Updates

p. 410 – Deleted “HK23” in Figure 9.34.

p. 418 – “Charles Kirkby” was replaced with “‘Charles Kirby’ (believed to be a pseudonym)”

p. 419 – Changed “The RG magazines were certainly made of a thin gauge steel, featured less of a constant curvature than the HK design that replaced them, and, anecdotally at least, contributed to feed stoppages.” to “Although quality was suspect, the main flaw of the RG magazine was the follower, which tilted easily, thus inducing a failure to feed.”

p. 433 – Removed ‘infrared’ from primary description of the IWS, as it is primarily an image intensifier even though it can be used in an active infrared capacity.

p. 459 – Changed “New steel magazine based those used with HK’s existing HK23 machine gun/G41 rifle design” to “New steel magazine originally designed for 5.56 mm HK weapons in the 1980s (see Figure 10.8).”

p. 463 – Changed caption for Figure 10.8 to “The durable but heavy steel AR-pattern magazine developed by Heckler & Koch in the 1980s. With a revised follower, this became the SA80A2 and HK416 ‘Enhanced Reliability’ magazine.”
